De Bibliotheek Permeke is tegenwoordig een bruisend gemeenschapscentrum in het hart van de Heilig Hartparochie, in de gebouwen van de voormalige Ford-garage. Het Heilig Hart van Jezus klopt sinds 1900 in deze buurt. Om de hoek staat de Heilig Hartkerk, geïnspireerd door de Sacré-Coeurbasiliek in Parijs. Hier aan het De Coninckplein stond vroeger zelfs een Heilig Hartbibliotheek.
Het Heilig Hart van Jezus is ook vandaag nog een bindmiddel in de buurt. De kerk is een verzamelplaats voor culturen en biedt diensten aan voor katholieken, de straatpastorij ’t Vlot en de Wit-Russische Grieks-katholieke gemeenschap. Spring zeker binnen in de bibliotheek: op de eerste verdieping vind je een met liefde uitgekozen selectie boeken over het hart.

The Permeke library is a vibrant community centre in the heart of a parish dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, in the buildings of the former Ford garage.
The Sacred Heart has been beating in this neighbourhood since its consecration in 1900. Just around the corner is the Church of the Sacred Heart (inspired by the Sacré Coeur basilica in Paris), where a Sacred Heart Library once stood on the De Coninck square.
To this day, the Sacred Heart parish is an important part of the community. The church is a gathering point for many cultures, and offers services for Catholic parishioners, the pastoral care organisation ’t Vlot and the Belarus Greek-Catholic community.
